Ross<\/a>, and with music by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Henry_Mancini\">Henry Mancini<\/a> and cinematography by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Russell_Harlan\">Russell Harlan<\/a>. The supporting cast includes <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Falk\">Peter Falk<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keenan_Wynn\">Keenan Wynn<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arthur_O%27Connell\">Arthur O&#8217;Connell<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vivian_Vance\">Vivian Vance<\/a>. The movie cost US$12\u00a0million, making it the most expensive comedy film at the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Storyline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Professional daredevil and white-suited hero, The Great Leslie, convinces turn-of-the-century auto makers that a race from New York to Paris (westward across America, the Bering Straight and Russia) will help to promote automobile sales. Leslie&#8217;s arch-rival, the mustached and black-attired Professor Fate vows to beat Leslie to the finish line in a car of Fate&#8217;s own invention. The Blake Edwards style of slapstick and song originated with this movie. A dedication to Laurel and Hardy appears at the beginning of the film.
